It's the time of year for Summer bbq's with family and Sunday picnics with your bestest gal pals. We've put together a list of 5 cocktails you need to try this  summer holiday period. So gather your girls and make a day of it; what's more fun than making cocktails on a summers day and then relaxing by the pool.  Check out our list below, screenshot and take to the shops to gather your ingredients! Happy cocktail making....      This light boozy lemonade is the perfect thing to serve at an outdoor soiree (or bbq if you aren't feeling fancy.)  The Recipe:  4 cups ginger beer  2 cups fresh lemon juice  1 bottle (750ml) rose wine, chilled  1 bottle (750ml) Cocchi Aperitivo Americano  10 dashes grapefruit bitters  Lemon wheels, for garnish  Assorted editable flowers, for garnish   Place an ice ring or 3 cups of ice cubes in a punch bowl. Add the ginger beer, lemon juice, rose, Cocchi Aperitive Americano and  grapefruit bitters, and stir together gently. Garnish with the lemon wheels and edible flowers, if using. Serve in rocks glasses.       It's essentially fruit salad in a glass, so you know it's good for you. Customize using whatever's in season at the time -  or whichever produce reminds you of the country you long to visit.  The Recipe:  45ml Pimms No. 1  14ml floral gin, such as Hendricks  14ml dry curacao  7ml fresh lemon juice  5 drops Star Anise Tincture  About 60ml ginger beer  thinly sliced cucumbers  mint sprigs and assorted fresh fruit and veggies, such as raspberries, currants and watermelon  radish, for garnish   Combine the Pimms, gin, curacao, lemon juice and star anise tincture (if using) in a wineglass and stir to blend. Top with ginger beer. garnish frivolously  with seasonal fresh fruit and sprigs of mint. Cucumber is a must! Sub in a splash of champagne or sparkling wine for the ginger beer to make a Pimm's Royale.       Fresh strawberries keep this drink from being too cloying, while rhubarb lends a bright colour.  The Recipe:  60ml Vodka  4 fresh strawberries  1 teaspoon of Rhubarb Puree  8ml lime juice  Dash of white balsamic  Dash of simple syrup   In a pint glass, muddle strawberries. Add rhubarb puree, lime juice, simple syrup and white balsamic. Pour all ingredients into a pint glass full of ice,  add vodka, gently shake. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with sliced rhubarb.       This pretty pink punch is made with refreshing coconut water, champagne, juice and fresh fruit. Talk about yummmmm on a warm, summers day!   The Recipe:  1 1/2 cups coconut water, flavoured or plain  1 cup+ champagne or white wine  1/2 cup orange juice  1/4 cup to 2+ cups of frozen or fresh fruit  splash grenadine  1 drop pink or red food colouring   Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl or pitcher, stir to combine, chill in the fridge before serving. If you don't drink alcohol, you can use non-alcoholic  wine or champagne, white grape juice or simply omit and adjust proportions of other ingredients to taste. Note: You can use ice to water down if need.       Voted no 1 summer cocktail by Gourmet Traveller Magazine for 2019 - The Big Appleberry was created by famed bartender Dale DeGroff.   The Recipe:  3 blackberries  2 raspberries  2 large red seedless grapes  60ml cloudy apple juice  45ml cognac  10ml lemon juice, or to taste  1 tsp caster sugar  To serve: blackberries or raspeberries and apple slices   Crush berries and grapes with a muddler or wooden spoon in a cocktail shaker or bar glass. Add remaining ingredients, then half fill the shaker with ice,  shake well and strain into a tall glass filled with ice. Garnish with berries and apple slices and serve.  Â
